The Careers of Retired Peace Officers 

To first become a peace officer requires passing a stringent selection process that over 90% of all applicants fail.

The selection process includes, written and physical agility tests, an oral board interview, a comprehensive background investigation, psychological, polygraph, and medical examinations, and an interview with the Chief of Police or Sheriff.

Entry level peace officers must then successfully complete an intensive police academy and months of field training before their first assignment.

During their careers, peace officers gain decades of experience in various areas of law enforcement including patrol and investigations. They  continue to update and recertify in firearms, defensive tactics, investigations, advanced officer, and many other areas of specialized training.
